Belonging to the Chagga tribe, Materuni is still an authentic tribal village, a charming place just 15km from Moshi Town and the last village in
Kilimanjaro National Park.
You will be picked up from Moshi/Arusha in Materuni Village in the morning to experience a cultural journey with
Materuni Waterfalls by your guide who will accompany you to the destination of Materuni Village. Upon arrival, check in at the city office and begin
your travel exploration.
First, you will visit the Materuni Waterfalls, which are about a 40-minute walk from the village. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the Chagga tribe, village life, and the surrounding fauna and flora. The views are really impressive and with a bit of luck you will see the summit area of Mount Kilimanjaro. The pool at the foot of the Materuni waterfalls invites you to take a refreshing dip, so don't forget to swim!
After taking in the scenery, slowly return with your guide to the village of Materuni, where you'll enjoy
a traditional Chagga lunch. You will also have the chance to taste our delicious local banana beer.
Then experience the coffee brewing
tour, where you will learn how coffee is grown, dried, roasted and processed. You are also invited to help grind the coffee, which is
traditionally accompanied by Chagga chants and dances. Sip your brewed coffee and enjoy the views of the surrounding rainforest before
departing and returning to Moshi/Arusha in the afternoon.
