SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK TANZANIA SAFARI OVERVIEW

Serengeti National Park is one of the Tanzania National Parks located in the Northern Circuit o Tanzania. Serengeti National Park was established in Eastern Mara region and North East Simiyu Region established during 1940. Serengeti National Park covers about 14,763km2 (5,700 square mi). Serengeti National Park contains more than 1,500,000 hectares (3,700,000 acres) of savanna.

Serengeti National Park is divided in to 3 neighboring parts that is SOUTH/CENTRAL PART (SERONERA VALLEY) is what the Maasai residents called "Serengit", means the endless plains. It's a classic savannah, dotted with acacia trees and teeming with wildlife. WESTERN CORRIDOR is shaped by the Grumeti River and features denser forests and shrubs. THE NORTH, THE LOBO AREA, meets Kenya's Masai Mara Game Reserve, it's the least visited section.

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK TANZANIA SAFARI HISTORY

In 1930, an area of 2,286 square kilometers (883 square miles) was designated as a game reserve in the southern and eastern Serengeti. In the 1930s, the government of Tanganyika established a system of national parks under the convention for the conservation of fauna and flora in their natural state. The area was declared a national park in 1940. It was strictly protected in 1948 when the Serengeti National Park Trust was formed to manage the national park. The government restricted the movements of the resident Maasai and the park boundaries were finalized in 1951.

In 1959, an area of 8,300 km2 (3,200 sq mi) in the eastern part of the national park was divided and restored as Ngorongoro Conservation Area designated to accommodate traditional species use of the Maasai land interests in a multiple land use area. In 1981, the Serengeti National Park covered 12,950 km2 (5,000 square miles), which was less than half of the Serengeti.

Reptiles like Nile crocodile, Leopard tortoise, serrated hinged terrapin, rainbow agama, Nile monitor, Jackson's chameleon, African python, black mamba, black-necked spitting cobra, and puff adder.

More than 500 species of birds like Masai ostrich, secretary bird, Kori bustards, helmeted guineafowls, Grey-breasted spurfowl, blacksmith lapwing, African collared dove, red-billed buffalo weaver, southern ground hornbill, crowned cranes, sacred ibis, cattle egrets, black herons, knob-billed ducks, saddle-billed storks, white stork, goliath herons, marabou storks, yellow-billed stork, spotted thick-knees, lesser flamingo, shoebills, abdim's stork, hamerkops, hadada ibis, African fish eagles, pink-backed pelicans, Tanzanian red-billed hornbill, martial eagles, Egyptian geese, lovebirds, spur-winged geese, oxpeckers, and many species of vultures.
