The Machame route is one of the most popular routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, known for its scenic views and relatively high success rate. While it is possible to complete the entire climb in 6-7 days, a one-day hike to Machame camp can also be an adventurous way to experience the mountain.

The Kilimanjaro day hike to Machame camp typically starts early in the morning, with climbers being driven from their lodging in Moshi or Arusha to the Machame gate, which is located at the base of the mountain. From there, the hike begins with a gradual climb through lush rainforest, where hikers can see a variety of plant and animal life, including monkeys and tropical birds.

As the hike progresses, the terrain becomes steeper, and hikers will pass through various vegetation zones, including moorland and heath, before reaching the Machame campsite, which sits at an elevation of around 9,800 feet (3,000 meters). The campsite provides basic facilities such as toilets and communal cooking areas, as well as stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

The total hiking distance to Machame camp is approximately 11 kilometers (6.8 miles), and it can take between 5 and 7 hours to complete, depending on the pace of the group and their level of fitness. It is important to note that the hike is physically demanding and requires a good level of fitness and acclimatization to the altitude.

Once at Machame camp, climbers can rest and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the mountain before either continuing on to higher camps or descending back down to the base of the mountain. One day Kilimanjaro Day Hike Machame Route Trip excursion along the Kilimanjaro Machame Route to Machame Camp for 11 km, 5 hours and descend the Kilimanjaro Machame route on the same day. A hike will take you through the vegetation zone / montane forest where you can take photos and generally enjoy the adventures in a single day. You will ascend with our professional mountain guide and some porters to carry materials. You will be picked up from Moshi/Arusha approx. 35 km from Moshi/Arusha, which will take you to Machame Gate in approx. at least 45 minutes. We take care of registration and payment and obtain a valid hiking permit. The day hike starts from Machame gate and the walking distance to Machame camp is 11km (22km return) which takes 5 hours each way.
